Three months into the storm

We’re more than three months into the storm now. Over the past months, we have seen a few rather ugly Singaporeans. We have seen ‘concerned’ individuals jumping up from all corners of the island creating noise, but not lifting a single finger to help in the nation’s efforts fighting the invisible enemy. We have seen the most beautiful souls doing all they can do their parts for Singapore.

You find what you seek, and I find in our everyday the kindness and generosity of spirits in the eyes of every masked Singaporean, regardless of where they come from. I’m so proud of your unwavering unity in the face of crisis, and your grace to go with the flow during these uncertain times.

Adaptability and the will to keep going

As an ex airline crew, I am humbled by the cabin crew of our national airline stepping into various roles be it transport ambassadors or care ambassadors.

Our Singapore Girls don their new uniforms with pride and carry out their duties with the same level of finesse as they did aboard the plane, extending assistance where our country calls for, with the same signature smile now hidden by their masks.

Your adaptability, your strength, show struggling Singaporeans what it means to be able to move ahead despite the odds stacked against us.

Blessed with a strong healthcare system and devoted healthcare workers

As a Singaporean, I’m so thankful to every healthcare worker who has forsaken their leave days to stand at the frontline, and I’m so thankful for every ex-healthcare worker who returned to the frontlines to lend an extra pair of hand in times that we need the most. And the ones who keep away from their own loved ones so they can do their part for our beloved little red dot.

I am proud of each and every person in Singapore who showed the utmost appreciation to our frontline workers in their own ways. The outpouring of gratitude, be it monetary donations, food, drinks and care packages, or the thoughts and prayers extended towards our frontline workers. Every gesture comes from deep within and for that, I am so proud to call you my fellow countryman.

Giving where you can, even when you can’t really

I beam with pride at the thought of every person who tips our delivery drivers generously, the kind soul who gave out angpows to our taxi drivers because ‘times are tough’, the ones who leave drinks and snacks outside their doors for our food delivery brothers and sisters, and every kind word extended to them. Little acts of kindness like these keep our essential workers going.

Standing together, facing the odds in solidarity

I am proud of each and every one of our countrymen, for being kinder during these tough times. Be it a generous donation to our migrant workers, or even one single mask given to an elderly person who are unaware of our new laws, or the supportive comments left for one another, or simply standing as one to sing ‘Home’ in our efforts to lift the spirits of the nation, even if it’s for that few evenings.

My heart is full. Stay strong, Singapore. As one, we will overcome this.
